This year's star party was a little wet. I came up on Thursday night. The seeing was very transparent early on although very dewy. Clouds drifted around but there was always a big piece of sky to look at. There were some incredible shooting stars from the Perseid meteor shower. A couple that left smoky winding trails that could be followed for many minutes (15) in the telescope. I had a hunch Friday night was going to be a bust so I headed back home to Seattle. I spent Saturday morning scanning the weather charts and determined that it was going to clear. Mad dash back to Table Mountain just in time for the raffle at 4pm. Apparently the skies dumped Friday night so I felt like I made a wise choice. However, while watching the raffle it started to rain! About three quarters of the people left after the raffle swearing at the rain. I stuck around and watched a beautiful sunset from Lion Rock. (see below). At 9 pm, just on cue, the skies opened up and the seeing was most excellent. It lasted until 2 am at which point sleep was welcomed.
